Keto Diet vs Atkins Diet (What’s The Difference?) Dr. Atkins created the Atkins Diet and set up the stage for the keto diet. The two diets are similar, but the main difference is the ratios of proteins and fats. Both Atkins and keto diets have similar carbs and most of those carbs come from vegetables and both focus on weight loss.

The ketogenic diet is well established as therapy for many diseases, the first being epilepsy. Keto is wasn’t invented by anyone, but the Atkins diet was.

  2. Key take away: Atkins focuses on low carb, but could still have too much protein and processed food, and it lacks nutritional variety, so not always healthy, although it helps with weight loss

  4. It's been less, than week I quit carbs, today I managed to fast 19.5h I ate tomato. And after an h .. banana.. bananas are too sweet already ๐Ÿ™‚ it is unbelievable for me, that I could switch off sugar but still drink black tea. s*it. forgot lemon ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. I think you are being a little hard on Mr. Atkins. The "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" book increased the salads and greens. As I recall, he only recommended the bars and shakes occasionally if you think you would cheat. I have almost effortlessly lost weight following his plan. You are not required to use the Atkins foods to be successful.

I, like many, have spent too much wasted time and $$ on wasted diets and gym memberships. I'm beginning to get results because I know what I'm doing, when I'm doing it, and especially why I'm doing it. Eternally grateful.

  7. Yes, the "Atkins" company now sells a lot of junkfood, but it's not what Dr. Atkins would have approved..He also believed in getting into ketosis. I used Atkins to lose 100 pounds about 20 years ago. Kept it off for about 7 years, but some family issues happened. Now I'm doing it again.
    Different things work for different people. IF doesn't work for me at all. It stalls me out. There are "keto" labeled products out there that are horrible. As with anything, find what works for you and do it well.

  8. Hi Dr ekberg, thank you for all your helpful information. I suffer from nausea when I'm doing keto with all the fat. I had my gallbladder removed years ago, but I take ox bile with each meal, which doesn't help with the nausea. I'm trying the atkins at the moment which so far does not give me nausea and iv started to lose weight. I'm trying to lose about 50lbs.which was impossible on keto as I couldn't stick to it because of the nausea. I was doing carbs 20, around 60gms Protein and 80% fat. I'm a healthy 74 yr old taking no meds. Was my Protein intake too low at 190 lbs.Any suggestions please. Thank you.

  10. Atkins was amazing – he got so much abuse for pushing the Low Carb way. Many stories about how Atkins was all meat diet yet was at most 30% and how was unsafe diet didnt have the variety of fruits/grains blah and would cause cancer.

  11. Original Atkins book had an all fat (cream/butter) for the most stubborn times to push into ketosis. If couldn't lose weight on the induction would switch to that to force body to ketosis.

  12. I'm old enough to remember Dr. Atkins. Lol, yeah, many of us thought he was crazy back in the day, telling us we should eat primarily meat and fat. Then they said his diet worked for seizures — I remember seeing that, either on the news, or on Oprah, or a documentary — and folks started to listen, but were still very skeptical.

Back in the 70's I followed the Atkins type diet but always with real food, good protein, veggies right out of my garden, and not those junkie commercial products and it worked fine to control both weight and hypoglycemia. Now I see why.

  15. My dad did Atkins in 1994 he ate all the animal meat he wanted , it's what he mostly ate and he lost 275 lb in a year and 2 months. He ate all the fat he wanted too but mostly meat and 1 or 2 salads a day or other low carb veggies. The original Atkins diet made it easy for the bed bound morbid obese to get healthy. Many many people found it was the only diet that was getting them healthy and keeping them healthy. It was very simple just cut your carbs and limit caffeine cuz it slows ketosis. You don't have to fast or exercise. Those that have to fast or exercise on ketogenic diet to see results are probably consuming too much caffeine or the wrong sweeteners or not enough fat. Fasting and exercise are beneficial but not required to loose weight on ketogenic dieting. Atkins also explained the dangers of over restricting meats. You don't have to over nausiate yourself by eating mostly fat to ketogenic diet either.๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜„
