  1. I’m really confused about this Mediterranean diet. Which countries are we talking about exactly? The Greeks eat lots of cheese, pasta and red meat, as do the Italians. Which countries actually eat fish, veg and rice?

  2. I went low-carb with 16/8 intermittent fasting in mid-May. I quickly lost 10 to 15 pounds (probably mostly water weight) and then plateaued. Despite maintaining this regimen, I lost nothing more in those three-plus months, and my belly is as big as ever.

  3. I don't know what to eat. My body doesn't digest anything, especially vegetables. I've done everything to cure my leaky gut. I'm constantly consuming pro and prebiotic, but everything gives me acid reflux. I live on vinegar to provide an acidic environment in my stomach, but I still can't digest anything. Eating is miserable for me.

  4. Unfortunately, I've heard most Olive oils sold in the US are poor quality. They are all diluted with cheap oils. Not everyone can afford to join expensive olive oil clubs and have it shipped. What to do???

  5. You mention that olive oil has a high percentage of saturated fat.
    However, the olive oil I found has about 15% saturated fat.
    Do you consider that high? Or do I have the wrong olive oil?

  6. Let me tell you, I live in Taly : the Mediterranean diet allows many carbohydrates and fruit after every meal. For weight loss, it is Keto that guarantees greater weight loss.

  7. I think most people are missing the point with Mediterranean diet! I was raised with it and still eat somewhere between Med and Keto now, but the whole point is, like Dr. Ekberg mentioned, eating REAL food! It's that simple. In other words, avoiding processed or man made foods, is 90% of the battle. At the age of 52, I still get a lot of questions about my younger and healthy looks even from doctors..My tip in a few words is, just avoid anything in a package or man made, stay active and stay away from stressful situations/people as much as you possibly can and you'll be just fine!

  8. I live in Greece, I think things have changed here too over the last decades. Too many starches and carbs. Pies ,dough products, a lot of spaghetti and pasta and of course bread, which is always accompanying lunch and dinner, even breakfast!

  9. Hello  Dr. Ekberg,I subscribed to your channel because I like your approach to health as a balance of different aspects.

    I'm Spanish but I live on Crete quite a few years now.
    It´s true that there are olive trees everywhere. We use a lot of olive oil.Also many goats around. The quality of the meat is high. Although I seldom eat meat. Only when I find from local happy grass fed animals.
    Lots of vegetables and salads. Also feta and graviera cheese.

    But there is also much obesity and overweight because they eat a lot of flour, pastry  and sweets.  Like arabian countries, they really love sweets and finish every meal with cakes.
    Culturally they are closer to the East than to Europe (possibly that´s why I like living here)

    Another problem is that they hardly ever workout. Very few people really.

    Unfortunately mediterranean diet here is not exatelly what it used to be 100 years ago but still is a very good option.

  10. People just manipulate Mediterranean diet to gorge on bread and nothing more. Basically they are just justifying their addiction. Give such people a plate of salad and they start cringing.

    Also, fda is doing best propaganda to promote carbs in the name of Mediterranean diet. I have seen real one and they don’t eat tons. Their whole carb intake in entire day will be less than a bagel. Also, I have seen mostly legumes soups… so they are low on lentils as well… indians eat far more legumes and their skin become old quite quickly.

  11. It’s interesting that that North African countries, the Levant, and Turkey are rarely discussed with the Mediterranean Diet. There few things are healthier than Tabouli, and cow is secondary at best to lamb and goat. I lived in Sfax, Tunisia for two years and men would come to neighborhoods daily with locally caught fish. Octopus is a big favorite in a traditional Tunisian tomato salad, and that is amazing. Remember also that these Muslim countries frown on alcohol. Tunisian Extra Virgin olive oil is almost a spiritual experience and is produced fresh every day. Harissa is a hot paste that is almost all chilies 🌶 and olive oil. The biggest problems are Couscous (wheat) , a thick baguette type bread used instead of cutlery, and tons of sweet tea/coffee.

  12. If you are trying to lose weight then with no question it's low carb diet.
    If you are in good shape with active life style then mediterranean diet is more healthy for you. But I'm sorry you can't really do mediterranean in US because food here is not real food, everything even the organic section didn't get the real sun and it's super processed like the olive oil, I lived most of my life in mediterranean countries and olive oil is taste not even close to in US, you can't even find raw milk in US!
    I lived most of my life in mediterranean country and I never gained any weight, I never calculated carb or calories and I used to eat whatever I feel, I came to US and I gained 40 extra pounds with in short time, that was so hard to get rid of and then I'm on all kind of diet, I finally lost it on very low carb diet.
    The problem is with the food here at US. It's NOT natural NOT real. BELIEVE ME!!!!
